WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2002--Mentor Graphics
Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced the winners of its 2001 -
2002 Higher Education Program Student Design Contest.
A top award of U.S. $5,000 was presented to the most innovative
and complete design project among four technology categories
including, printed circuit board design (PCB), IC/analog mixed-signal
design, hardware description language (HDL) design and system-on-chip
(SoC) design. Winners for individual technology categories were also
recognized and receive U.S. $2,000 in prize money. Co-sponsored by Sun
Microsystems, Inc., the contest is designed to promote innovation and
excellence in education for engineering students at both undergraduate
and graduate levels.
The grand prize winner of this year's contest was Ayman Hassan Abd
El Aziz of Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, for his project
titled, Design and Implementation of an IF Gm-C filter for Bluetooth.
Ayman also won the award for the IC/analog mixed-signal design
category with this project. Other contest winners included:
HDL Design:
Ryan Henderson of the Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath
Falls, Oregon, for his project, CMOS Digital Camera Controller
and Frame Capture Device.

The Higher Education Student Design Contest is open to any
full-time undergraduate or graduate student attending a college or
university participating in Mentor Graphics Worldwide Higher Education
Programs. Entrants were judged for the most complete and innovative
design project created by a student or team of students enrolled in
VLSI classes during the 2001-2002 school year. Final projects were
evaluated and the winners determined by a panel of technology experts
from Mentor Graphics.
